No tour of Texas barbecue joints would be complete without a stop at Black’s Barbecue in Lockhart. Actually, we may or may not have visited two Black’s locations while in Texas. No shame in this turkey barbecue game.

They are one of the oldest in the business, and it’s not hard to see (or taste) why. From the perfume of post oak wood smoke to the unique flavors of the meats themselves, the Black family knows there is a lot to love about barbecue.

Turkey is already a popular item on Black’s menu, and they do a mean turkey breast. It’s simple, but turkey doesn’t need to be fussy to be good. Cooked low and slow, you’re going to be hard-pressed to find a slice of turkey that’s more tender, juicy and loaded with smoky flavor than what the Black family is serving. Plus, we hear it’s what many of the regulars order when they stop by.

Hear more from Barrett Black and Eric Lenderman, members of the 4th generation of Black’s Barbecue, about their operation. We guarantee you’ll be craving a bite for yourself before it’s over, so you might as well make plans to pick up turkey and all the fixins’ from your favorite barbecue spot tonight.
